Neuroinformatics combines research in neuroscience, informatics and computation, to develop and apply advanced tools and approaches needed to understand the brain. Neuroinformatics needs structured exchange of information among users to ease basic research, applied research and industrial development. To do this, a structured collection of distributed information must be done to enhance the understanding of the nervous system, and furthermore, to ease the creation of better models for the study of both natural and artificial intelligent systems. The Neuroinformatics Working Group established within the Global Science Forum of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) has supported the creation, in 15 countries belonging to the Working Group, of National Portals of Neuroscience in order to give a reasonable and easy-to-use access to this scientific field, and also to supply knowledge, working tools, and neurological applications which can be useful for: citizens, public institutions, doctors and researchers.
