T-Care is an innovative integrated system in order to support and to favour the independent living of the elderly or disable people, especially those suffering with chronic diseases, in the meanwhile ensuring them timely health assistance, alert and education for life styles, using a basic home appliance like a TV as a main user interface. The T-Care system uses a Set-Top-Box (STB), digital interactive connection to television, biomedical and specific utility devices and wi-fi net technology in order to offer a service for telehomecare, monitoring some clinical parameters of patients with chronic diseases such as cardiopathies, diabetes and neurological pathologies (that are common for many old persons). The continuous health telemonitoring, using biomedical sensors linked to a STB, can regard parameters such as body temperature, pulse (heart rate), SpO2, ECG, glucose level, etc; but other information can be inserted and sent to a web based repository server. In fact the system transmits medical data, via a digital TV channel, to a dedicated web portal, where the health data base will be accessed by the medical specialists (in cardiology, diabetology, neurology, etc.) and the social health operators.
